Drawn by Light

David Prifti, a photographer and artist of extraordinary talent and unique vision, introduces a new category of art portfolios for POBA – Photographic Assemblages. Through the juxtaposition of images, found objects and ephemera in his assemblages, Prifti created symbolic and often autobiographical images that convey his sense of personal history and the passage of time. Toward the end of his life, Prifti began experimenting with another technique, a 19th century process known as “wet plate collodion” photography, to create an extraordinary series of portraits he called his “Tintypes.” These Tintypes captured images of contemporary models using thi painstakingly slow and labor-intensive 19th century technique to create evocative works of art that seem to be simultaneously from another era yet emotionally present.
