Friedolin Kessler | I Once Was A Tree

Friedolin Kessler (1913-1995) had a passion for wood, seeing wood as not only a living medium but as a form of nature's artistry. He made wood all the more beautiful by his unparalleled skill at wood turning and carving. This collection shows a deep respect for the grain and movement contained in every piece of wood he worked. The wood bowls and wood mosaics shown here reveal his ability to draw from the wood its natural expression and to embellish it with creative yet simple features, often by mixing types of wood, adding marquetry, or joining wood with other media - metal, stone, and colored epoxy, for example - to make bowls, mosaics and jewelry of timeless simplicity and elegance.
