Muscle Beach was at the base of the Santa Monica Pier and in full swing when these images were taken in the early to mid 1950's. The health and fitness movement is well illustrated here by daring acrobatic stunts with feats of strength and balance and shows the sands teaming with contestants, athletes and adoring crowds. His unique look at people that made up the scene captures a range of emotions and moments silhouetted against an always- brilliant sky.
