Leslie Gillette Jackson | A Strange Light

Leslie Gillette Jackson (1921- 2013) was a painter and poet. These simple terms belie the elegance, intelligence and perceptiveness that inform her masterful words and works. In this small collection of paired poems and drawings, Leslie reflects on her longtime question about the relationship between words and images. As she said, "The poems come first. The drawings answer them like music." At the same time, these pairings are her reflections on what Seamus Heaney called "a sense of place" and how places help to create poetry. In these poems and drawings, Leslie also creates an artistic homage to one wild place of austerity and beauty.
